I explore the mutability of
nature within and around me. My work with nature has evolved through a
dialogue with specific places. I have created temporary installations
and interactions to engage the natural forces of water, wind, gravity,
fire, light and time. Using natural or simple manmade materials, I have
worked in the varied environments of Alaska, Hawaii, Wyoming,
Washington, Arizona, Colorado and California in the USA. I document my
work with photographs and hope my work provides experiential doorways,
to awaken and renew our connection with the worlds within and around us.
I’m interested in bringing the inside out, and the outside in, both in
nature and psyche.
From 1996-2006 I repeatedly
returned to live and work on the same, small remote island in SE Alaska,
uninhabited by humans. My intention was to experience myself as a part
of nature, like the animals around me, rather than existing separate
from nature. I have exhibited since 1975 and more recently participated
in many outdoor art parks. Artist Residency’s in California, Washington
and Colorado have been an appreciated support and stimulus for my work.
I received an MFA in Arts and Consciousness from John F. Kennedy
University, and got my undergraduate degree from Evergreen State
College.
