I entered university in 1971. My education and exploration during the next decade or so included a tour in the Marine Corps, and later two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer.  I received an MFA in Sculpture from East Carolina University in 1983.  I have participated in over fifty site-specific interactions in the landscape since the early 1980's.  I have received Grants or Fellowships from numerous organizations including; National Endowment for the Arts, Southern Arts Federation, The Louisiana Division of the Arts, the South Carolina Arts Commission, and the Awards in the Visual Arts XI, from the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art.

I have served as an Artist-in-Residence or Visiting Artist on many occasions since 1987. Often these were associated with universities, but I have also worked at botanical gardens, a centuries old Japanese temple, urban centers and rural landscapes as well as museums around the world.

Currently I am a Professor of Art at the College of Charleston, and I live in Charleston, South Carolina.

GUANDU SPIRA MIRABILIS_(2).jpg

One of six artists selected for the Guandu International Outdoor Sculpture Festival.  The spiral path is 47 feet long and culminates in an open courtyard with a wood and stone spiral seating element.  This work was to last for 6 months.  They have decided to keep it up for a longer period of time.

This structure was built after finding a proliferation of snail shells on my site visit. There is a 2 foot thick rammed- earth spiral wall running inside.  There is a stone seat in the interior and an oculus for light.  This project existed for 9 months.
